What You Get With an Automated Gate
Most automatic gate failures are not the motor.
They are a gate that was never built to be automated. Posts set for a gate you push by hand. A leaf that drops a few millimetres over a wet season. A driveway that rises as the gate swings across it.
An operator will fight all of that, every cycle, until it burns out. So we size the posts and footings for a powered leaf, hang it to stay square, and only then fit the automation.
Which gate suits your driveway
Space and slope decide this more than budget does. Here is the honest comparison.

A motor is about a third of the job
Here is where the rest of an automatic gate job goes, in the order we do it.
The gate, built for load
Posts, footings and hinges sized for a powered leaf rather than a hand-pushed one.
Operator matched to the leaf
Sized to the weight and the duty cycle, so it is not working at its limit every time.
Safety, not as an upsell
Sensors or loops so it will not close on a vehicle or a person, plus a manual release for power cuts.
Access and handover
Keypad, remotes or intercom fitted, force and travel limits set, and the gate cycled before we leave.
Can Your Existing Gate Be Automated?
Often, yes. If the posts are solid and set deep, the hinges are sound and the gate swings or rolls freely by hand, an operator can usually be added to the gate you already have.
- The frame is rigid and square
- The posts do not move when you push the gate
- There is power nearby or a route to bring it in
- The gate drags or has sagged
- The posts are shallow or rotting
- The driveway rises across the swing
An operator will fight all of that until it burns out, so we will tell you, and quote the repair or a new gate built for a powered leaf.

It depends on the gate type and size, the operator, whether the posts and footings need replacing, how far power has to run, and the access control you want. We give you a written quote after a free on-site visit, before any work begins.
Every automatic gate we install has a manual release, so it can be opened by hand during a power cut. Some operators also offer battery backup, and we can talk through whether it makes sense for your driveway.
Yes. Access can be a keypad, handheld remotes or an intercom, depending on the operator. We fit it, set it up and show you how it works at handover.
Swing gates suit level driveways with room for the leaf to open. Sliding gates suit short driveways where you cannot give up the swing space. Cantilever gates suit commercial entrances and rough ground, because nothing runs across the driveway.
Yes. We fit safety sensors or loops so the gate will not close on a vehicle or a person, and set the force and travel limits before we leave.
Yes, when they are installed for it. We set posts to proper depth for wet coastal ground and weatherproof the wiring. On sliding gates, the ground track needs to be kept clear of gravel and ice.
